COUNSELING
Your Goals. Your Strengths. Your Process.
Counseling offers a unique space in which you are seen and heard, respected, and safely challenged to make the changes that help you reach your goals. Your goals are important to us, and lay the foundation of our work together. Once your counselor establishes what those are, she spends time with you building skills and insight to reach them. This work can take many forms. For some it may be developing tools to manage difficult emotions, or practicing ways to communicate to improve relationships. It may be finding space to grieve or be angry. It could be finding a space to begin to feel safe in, perhaps for the first time in a very long time. Whatever your goals are, you and your counselor work together to achieve them.
We use clinically proven treatment methods in our work. Many of the modalities we use are evidence-based, which means they have been developed and researched to show consistent positive benefit in the lives of those who have participated in therapy with those methods. These include Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT). We use these modalities to help individuals struggling with depression, anxiety, psychosis, trauma, or personality disorders.
Sessions are generally 50-minutes long, and take place at our office. Telepsych session are available, too. You and your counselor spend the first few times you meet getting to know each other, and making sure she understand your experience and needs. Additional sessions are focused on taking the steps to reach your goals.
